The 40 semi-finalists are grouped into two categories: early to growth stage (30) and concept and prototype stage ventures (10). Yapku was selected as one of 40 from a total of 550 applicants, a record in the programme’s history.
This marks a big step in gaining world-wide recognition as Yapku competes against established entities in over 16 countries ranging from North America, to Europe, Asia and the South Pacific.
Each semi-finalist was chosen by the assessors for the scale of the problem/opportunity being addressed, the effectiveness of the solution and its impact, their venture’s viability, sustainability and scalability, and the economic benefit to Hong Kong in terms of knowledge and skills, job creation, social and environmental value.
The next round of interviews in september will help to determine the 12 finalists where 3 grand finalists will be chosen by the judges and voting panel.
