SOFTCAST 4K LAUNCHED AT ABU SHOW

On the opening day of the ABU 2014 Digital Symposium and exhibition in Malaysia today, Ideal Systems has announced that its SoftCast Broadcast Software ecosystem has been enhanced to support 4K Playout with dynamic channel branding.

Ideal Systems on-booth demonstration at the ABU exhibition demonstrates how SoftCast’s MAM can manage 4K ingest, 4K edit and 4K playout with SoftCast’s AutoPlay channel-in-a-box automation. The SoftCast system on display at the symposium is running on a single Dell server and final output is being displayed on Toshiba’s new top of the line 84 inch L9400 4K Ultra HD consumer TV, which was only launched at CES in Las Vegas in January. Ideal are also demonstrating SoftCast modules for newsroom automation and live channel censorship.

“4K end-to-end workflow is not a requirement for most broadcasters today, but broadcasters need to future proof for tomorrow” Said Fintan McKiernan, CEO of Ideal Systems Singapore, and spokesperson for SoftCast, who continued “we are starting to see the silicon that can decode 4K content in the bandwidth-saving HEVC format for set top boxes, the 4K TV’s are already hitting the market and getting cheaper, the 4K cameras are already rolling in Hollywood, so it’s a fair assumption that linear 4K channels are not that far away. It’s good for broadcasters to know that the technology they choose today will still have value tomorrow. This is the real value proposition of SoftCast, as its completely Software based and upgradable it ensures operators reduce their risk of being locked into legacy technology”
