Ideal Systems Yacht Racing Team will be at the heart of the action in the highly competitive SB20 One design class this week, where teams will be competing not just for the prestigious 20th Singapore Straits Regatta, but also the SB20 Asia Pacific Championship.
This year will see some of the leading SB20 crews set out from One°15 Marina Club in Singapore’s Sentosa Island over the 16th, 17th and 18th January in combined physical and mental challenge. Variable wind and weather conditions await the teams who will be navigating the course off Singapore’s East Coast Beach in the seasonal northeast monsoon winds. With an offshore breeze and a short choppy sea, technical strategies and sailing skills will be tested to the max to outperform the competition. The SB20, is a one-design sports-boat is engineered for racing with a maximum weight of no more than 270kg. The 6 meter keelboats are designed with a big sail profiles, and will require teams to be extremely fit and agile to keep this racing machine under control.
The Ideal Racing Team will be sailing with a 4-man crew, including Anthony Kiong at the helm, alongside Stanley Chan and Colin Ng as trimmers. Calling tactics will be new team member, fifteen year old Bertha Han, who is the 2013 World and Asian Optimist Champion.
